10 April 2021: Grand National Preview

The big day has arrived!

Welcome to the 2021 Randox Grand National. Race time 5.15pm.

RacehorseClub are doubly represented in the race by Balko Des Flos (orange cap) and Potters Corner. Let us start with Balko Des Flos.

Henry De Bromhead is upbeat about his chances and is expecting him to run well. He was very much still in contention at Cheltenham last time out in the Cross Country before unseating Rachael Blackmore at the cheese wedges. Up until this point he travelled full of zest and Blackmore reported him to “wing the Aintree fences” which should stand him in good stead today. Henry is adamant there are more races in him and if he adapts to the fences and enjoys the early part of the race and gets into a rhythm he could run very well. Aidan Coleman takes the ride who is very much looking forward to it and said last night on Balko Des Flos “he’s a real good ride to pick up, Henry tells me he’ll give me a good spin so let’s hope he gets a bit of luck in running and goes well.” He is currently priced at 100/1 in places which looks tremendous value.

Christian Williams reports Potters Corner to be “absolutely bouncing” ahead of today’s race. He has worked very well in the last ten days having an away day at Ffos Las and then schooling over Grand National style fences at David Pipe’s yard earlier this week. Christian has put the blinkers on him for the first time today to try and get absolutely everything out of him and he reports he’s worked extremely well at home in them. Ideally, he might have wanted a bit more rain, but the going was described by Jack Tudor who takes the ride as “like a carpet” after finishing second in the Topham over the Grand National fences yesterday. Potters Corner has the ideal profile for the race and this has been his target all year. Hopefully he can go one step better and win the real thing today after winning the virtual Grand National in 2020. He is currently around 22/1 this morning which is a very fair price.

In summary, both trainers are delighted with both horses going into the race. With it being the Grand National let’s hope they get some luck and most importantly come back safe and sound. RacehorseClub is extremely proud to be part of the race with two runners and we wish our members the very best of luck. Make sure you give both horses a huge cheer before and during the race, they need to be able to hear you wherever you are in the world!

Here’s to a great day ahead.
