Balko Des Flos gives RacehorseClub 2nd in Grand National with first runners
RacehorseClub had our first runners ever yesterday in the Grand National at Aintree. What an unbelievable start it was.
Balko Des Flos, 100-1 outsider ran an absolutely astonishing race to finish second ridden by Aidan Coleman. Having been purchased by RacehorseClub just 17 days before the race members enjoyed a thrill of a lifetime as he hit the front entering the home straight. A mistake at the last cost him valuable momentum with him eventually being beaten by Minella Times and Rachael Blackmore. Henry De Bromhead’s amazing achievements continued training the first two home.
Balko Des Flos was cheered on by owners ticket ballot winners who got owners access for the day and what an amazing day they had.
Lisa Gillespie from Derby attended Aintree with her father, Gabriel: “I had a few pounds on Balko at Cheltenham so when I saw the RacehorseClub tv advert with Frankie Dettori in I went onto the website and saw members shares were available in Balko so I immediately bought myself and my dad shares. I got a phone call on Friday morning from RacehorseClub who told me I had won the owners ticket ballot. I thought it was a joke at the time, I just could not believe it. I got the train up on Saturday with my dad and we had the most amazing day. We were greeted on arrival and taken for a beautiful lunch. We got pictures with Balko before the race and then after we got to speak to Henry De Bromhead and Aidan Coleman. To be involved in a Grand National second is just the most amazing thrill and experience we’ve ever had. It been a day me and my dad won’t ever forget and we thank RacehorseClub for giving us the opportunity of a lifetime. It was also great to meet the other ballot winners here today as well”.
Potters Corner also represented RacehorseClub in the Grand National. He pulled up before Becher’s Brook on the second circuit. The ground was possibly too quick for him but he ran with credit and jockey Jack Tudor looked after him to fight another day.
Both horses have come out of the race absolutely fine with both trainers reporting them to be in great order this morning.
Balko returned to Ireland and arrived home around 10.30am where both he and Minella Times got heroes welcomes.
It’s been an unbelievable weekend and we’re all now looking forward to Newmarket on Wednesday when The Lir Jet runs in the Free Handicap, listed race over 7 furlongs.
