Potters Corner retired

Potters Corner was durable and possessed limitless stamina. He performed on some of the grandest stages dating back to 2014. Potters even managed to hit the headlines by winning the world’s most famous race. He didn't even leave  his home in the beautiful Welsh countryside to win. The Virtual Grand National!

Potters Corner raced 35 times under rules winning 7 races with career earnings of £226,000.

Potters Corner had initially been trained in Ireland by Thomas Cooper. Having placed second in a point-to-point race, he sold at Cheltenham. Selling for £30,000.

He joined the stable of trainer Paul Morgan and lost no time in proving his quality. Winning on his British debut in a Chepstow bumper.

He then finished third in another National Hunt Flat Race at the Aintree Grand National meeting. Barters Hill, the subsequent Grade 1 hero, won this incredibly high class event. Future five-time top level scorer, Bellshill, came in second that day. No less remarkable was that dual Champion Hurdler, Buveur d’Air,  came home a length behind Potters Corner in fourth.

Moved to Christian Williams in 2018

Triumphant in the Midlands Grand National and the Welsh Grand National in 2019. Potters Corner became the first locally-trained winner of that historic contest in 46 years. As a result, he became regarded as one of the top staying chasers in the UK. It is yet another testament to the quality of this horse and the excellent job Christian and his team achieved.

For all his successes, it may seem strange that possibly his best known win came without ever leaving his yard. Perhaps he will be best remembered for 'winning' the 2020 Virtual Grand National. As a replacement for the real Aintree spectacular (cancelled due to Covid-19) which raised £2.6 million for NHS charities.

In the latter stages of his career, Potters Corner was beaten a nose at Cheltenham in the cross-country race in December 2021. His final race came at Warwick on 16th November 2022.

Potters Corner had a magnificent career that delivered some spectacular highlights and we wish him well in his retirement, He has a beautiful new home, close to Christian's yard in the care of Harriet Tudor, his main jockey, Jack Tudor's sister.
